Rayann Gordon grew up in Medicine Hat dancing at the Medicine Hat College and Hanson School of Dance. She completed a BA in Psychology at the University of Calgary while studying hip hop and contemporary dance. She traveled to South America where she began to seriously study dance improvisation. After returning to Canada she was accepted to Simon Fraser University's Contemporary Dance program in Vancouver, BC. In 2007 choreographed and performed in an Adham Shaikh music video and was selected by the SFU dance department as a student choreographer to debut her work "We Are All Saran Wrapped" at Manoeuvre 2008. As well as being a student she is the Director of Performance Art for Area709 Vancouver (www.area709.com) and founded the Concentric Reason Dance Project, which showed three installation pieces in March 2008. She is currently dancing as an apprentice with Vancouver's Kokoro Dance (www.kokoro.ca), and is the choreographer for Romeo and Juliet by MeThinks Productions (http://www.clairemccague.com). A passionate performer and choreographer, Rayann's movement style is fluid and dynamic with roots in modern dance and influences from hip hop and martial arts. She loves working with youth and teaching movement and the creation of movement.
